According to the 2023 Global Innovation Index (GII), Switzerland, Sweden, and the United States were the top three most innovative countries in the world, while Nigeria ranks 109th.
According to the chart, South Africa received 30.4%, Morocco got 28.4%, and Tunisia got 26.9%, respectively, making them the top three countries in Africa. Nigeria, however, ranked 13th with 18.4%.
The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) created the GII to record the effectiveness of innovation ecosystems in 132 economies and monitor current patterns of global innovation.

“The GII 2023 tracks global innovation trends against the background of uncertainty caused by slow economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, high interest rates, and geopolitical conflict, but with the promise of digital age and deep science innovation waves and technological progress,” the WIPO added.
It was revealed that the rankings took into account factors such as scientific discovery, technological advancement, technology adoption, and societal and economic effects.
It went on to say, “This year, Sweden has climbed to second position, surpassing the United States.” When looking at economies in the Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Oceania (SEAO) region, Singapore now ranks first.
