Fifa Ranking Men’s category feature’s Nigeria slipping a spot lower in June despite a resounding victory in their final game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications and their only match since the previous FIFA world rankings in June, according to PUNCH Sport Extra.

Despite the recent wins Nigeria slipped lower

The Super Eagles, who were rated 39th in the June rankings, slid three spots to 40th. In their final match of the AFCON qualifiers, the Eagles trounced Sao Tome and Principe 6-0, but the outcome had little real impact on their standing on the rankings table.

With an incredible 15 points, Jose Peseiro’s team won Group A of the AFCON qualifiers and secured a place at the AFCON scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast the following year.

Morocco holds the top spot in Africa

The three-time African champions are still in the top six teams on the continent, which is great news for them because it means they will be among the top seeds when the AFCON draw is made later in 2023.

Morocco, which now holds the top spot in Africa and is ranked 13th globally, continues to lead the continent.

Rank of other African countries

Senegal kept their second place in Africa even though they slipped two spots and are now ranked 20th in the global Fifa ranking.

Jerrymusa.com reports that the only African nation among the top six on the continent to advance internationally is Tunisia. They were placed 31 in the prior rankings, but according to the revision issued by FIFA on Thursday, they are now in position 29.

Egypt (35) and Algeria (34) round out the Top 5 in Africa. In the world, the World Cup champions Argentina continue to be placed first, ahead of France, Brazil, England, and Belgium.
