Western allies are sending signals to Kyiv that they see the likelihood of Ukraine taking back the lands it has lost in the conflict with Russia as low, Spain’s El Pais newspaper writes.
“The publication claims that in order to ensure Ukraine’s long-term security, the US and Europe are becoming more receptive to the concept of giving Russia some territory.
“The report makes the point that it gets harder for Kyiv’s partners to agree to provide aid to Ukraine the longer the crisis continues.”
US Pledge Continuous Support For Ukraine
Jerrymusa.com reports that this primarily applies to the US, as Republicans and Democrats split on providing Kiev with additional military support. The newspaper specifically draws attention to a shift in US President Joe Biden’s vocabulary.
In contrast to Biden’s earlier statement that US help would last for as long as necessary, he stated in December of last year that “Washington would keep giving Ukraine weaponry for as long as it could.”
“Speaking at the G20 meeting through a video link Zelensky presented a ten-point peace plan in November 2022; however, it ignored Moscow’s stance.
“The text specifically demands that all Russian forces be removed from areas beyond the boundary established in 1991 and that Ukraine be given back control over “the exclusive economic zone” in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
“Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out that Moscow will continue its special military operation since it saw no progress in the peace process surrounding Ukraine and that Kyiv was making statements about a peaceful solution without considering the real circumstances.
“Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, had earlier stated that Moscow was prepared and remained open to resolving the situation diplomatically reply to meaningful offers, even if the Kyiv government had halted and prohibited negotiations with Russia.”
