Victor Osimhen has been asked to apologise following his recent outburst on social media directed at coach Finidi George.

Osimhen reacted to reports that he had “faked injuries” during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which the team coach, Finidi George, cited as a “major reason” for their poor performance. The Napoli player disputed this claim, stating that he had “informed the coach of his injury” and was “still willing to play,” but was “excluded from the team.”

Jerrymusa.com reports that in response, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is considering “disciplinary action,” including a “potential ban,” against Osimhen for his comments. Despite attempts to reach out to him, Osimhen has refused to “retract his statements,” and the NFF may require a “public apology” to coach Finidi before allowing him to rejoin the team.

NFF Bid For a New Coach

Meanwhile, the NFF is currently searching for a new coach for the Super Eagles, following Finidi’s “resignation,” with a “former Saudi Pro League coach” emerging as a “top candidate.” Osimhen’s suspension could have “significant implications” for the team, given his “importance to the squad.” His absence would be “deeply felt,” especially in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The situation highlights the “challenges of managing player relationships” and the “importance of effective communication in sports.”
