Following Super Eagles’ shocking defeat to Benin in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau has assured fans that measures are being taken to address the team’s struggles and secure qualifications for the prestigious tournament.

“This is a difficult moment for Nigerian football, but we’re working tirelessly with the sports minister to implement comprehensive reforms that will transform the entire system,” he said.

Gusau emphasized that qualifying for the World Cup remains a realistic goal, stating, “We’re going to fight hard to make it happen. We’ll take concrete measures to ensure qualification. We want to assure Nigerians that we’re committed to restoring the team’s glory.”

He also highlighted the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers as an opportunity to showcase the team’s progress. “The AFCON qualifiers will provide a platform for us to demonstrate the steps we’re taking to improve the team,” he added.

 

Gusau appealed for Nigerian fans’ support and prayers, assuring them that the team will do everything possible to secure qualification. “We urge Nigerians to continue praying for us. We’re committed to fighting hard and making sure we qualify for the World Cup,” he said.

The Super Eagles’ recent defeats have left them fifth in the six-team table, but Gusau remains optimistic about their chances. With six games left to play, Nigeria is determined to turn their fortunes around and secure a spot in the World Cup.
