Ndidi' withdrawal from AFCON is beyond "injury excuse" - source

A source has said that Super Eagles and Leicester City combative midfielder, Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi’s choice to withdraw from the Nigeria Super Eagles AFCON squad goes beyond his physical condition.

Jerrymusa.com reports that Ndidi had been on coach Jose Peseiro’s final 25-man list for the continental showpiece scheduled for the Ivory Coast. However, a late withdrawal, citing injury concerns saw him replaced by Belgium-based Alhassan Yusuf.

A Facebook page, BPB Wrote It, posted the following in the early hours of Thursday, January the 4th:

“I think Ndidi’s decision to withdraw from Nigeria Super Eagles AFCON squad goes beyond just injury.

“The January transfer window is open and Ndidi is one of the most mentioned names in this transfer window as he’s wanted by many top European teams.

“Almost all the team’s interested in him like FC Barcelona need a player who can join their team IMMEDIATELY as they are already plagued by injuries; not a player who will join in late February (if Nigeria advances to the Final).

“Ndidi’s withdrawal will afford him more time to explore the transfer market and probably seal that dream transfer opportunity. Remember, no one saw or heard anything about Ndidi getting injured until the coach of Leicester suddenly came out and declared him unfit.

“Because of his withdrawal, Ndidi will have more time to navigate the transfer market and potentially land that ideal transfer opportunity”.

Recall that Ndidi’s injury went unnoticed until the Leicester coach abruptly announced that he was deemed unfit.
