Super Eagles Coach Finidi George says his goal is to ensure that his team performs very well in their upcoming international friendly games and to make Nigerians proud.

George will occupy the chief’s corner in the dugout when the Super Eagles confront West African arch-rivals Ghana in an international friendly on Friday.

This came after Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro’s departure, and he was chosen by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday to take over interim leadership.

This occurred 21 months after he started serving as Peseiro’s backup, helping the Eagles place second at the 34th Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

On March 26, the runners-up from Africa are scheduled to play Les Aigles of Mali in a second friendly match at the same Grand Stade de Marrakech, Morocco.

“As a coach, there’s a huge responsibility that comes with the job, but that’s what we do.

“You need to remain composed, complete your task, and make sure it is done correctly.

“Many Nigerians are watching, as far as we know. We therefore wish to make them proud.

“These are two really important games for Nigeria, and the AFCON is over.

George stated, “We will therefore take it very seriously and make sure we get the most out of these games.”

Twenty-two Super Eagles players will be led by George, a former Ajax player.

In the international window this month, he will be trying to hone their abilities, tactics, and strategy in preparation for the June 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Tuesday in Marrakech marked the coach’s first training session with the club as they underwent their paces.

At least 14 of the 22 players who were scheduled to arrive at the team’s Adam Park Hotel in Marrakech engaged in some light exercise.

However, due to injury, attackers Taiwo Awoniyi and Victor Osimhen, as well as defenders Gabriel Osho and Tyronne Ebuehi, will not be playing in the friendly.

“Training has gone well even though we are still waiting on a few players; the players who are here now have performed admirably.”

“Since some of the guys were just getting back from their travels, it wasn’t all that intense.

“However, I’ve been feeling fantastic, and the team spirit is strong. Thus, I am pleased with it,” the coach remarked.
