Gunmen on Monday abducted a high court judge in the Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Joy Uwanna, and her driver.
Her orderly was reportedly killed in the attack which occurred along Uyo-Okobo Road.
jerrymusa.com reports that President of the Oron branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Trosko Aine, said the judge was abducted along the Okobo axis while on her way to Uyo after a court hearing.
He revealed that members of the association have scheduled a meeting with the state Commissioner of Police and the Department of State Services on Wednesday.
He said: “The sitting judge in Oron was kidnapped on Monday while returning to Uyo after a court hearing.
CP orders a discreet investigation
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon who was contacted, described the incident as unfortunate, adding that the CP has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident
“It’s very unfortunate that a judge who presides over high court has been kidnapped, he said,
“CP Commander Oratoy Dursinmi has ordered a careful investigation.
“As we speak, we will do everything in our power to utilize our resources to ensure that Her Lordship is reunited with her family at any time.
“I have spoken with family of the deceased officer who, until his death was an orderly to the judge. Justice will be served and the perpetrators will be brought to book.”
