President Bola Tinubu holds a private meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalai Hubala, former Governor Peter Odili and other stakeholders of Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

The meeting, which began on Monday night, comes after weeks of dispute between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Federal Capital Territory Minister.

The agenda of the meeting has not been made public, but it may be related to the political crisis of December 11, when 27 out of 32 members of the state assembly known to be Wike supporters defected from the Peoples Democratic Party.

As a result, Congress declared the seat vacant.

Wike himself was previously seen on the grounds of the State House.

At the time of this report, Vice President Kassim Shettima and Rivers State Deputy Governor are also present at the Presidential Palace.
The political crisis in Rivers State has led to the destruction of the State House, which was earlier burnt down even as security personnel reportedly barricaded the entrance to the House.
The House House of Representatives also made clear why it will not take over the functions of Rivers State, which is currently embroiled in the Fubara and Wike feud.
 
The federal government is currently distancing itself from the political crisis.

The paper said that despite being a federal civil servant, the minister’s actions were personal in nature and denied that he shared Wike’s political inclination.

“The federal government has nothing to do with the emergence of this issue, it

is a political issue that is occurring within the state,” said Mohamed Idris,

Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris told State House correspondents after briefing on the outcomes of last Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
