Former US President Donald Trump has been removed from the presidential primary ballot in the state of Illinois, CNN reported.

The ruling is grounded in Section Three of the US Constitution and was rendered by Cook County Circuit Judge Tracie R. Porter.

Anybody who took an oath to uphold the Constitution and subsequently “engaged in insurrection” against it is prohibited from holding office in the future by the amendment.

Trump Keeps Coming Back

Jerrymusa.com reports that following the Civil War (1861–1865), the amendment was enacted to limit the privileges of Southern politicians. But the decision was postponed while an appeal was filed.

The Illinois State Board of Elections overwhelmingly rejected a proposal in late January that called for Trump to be taken off the ballot, citing a lack of power for the board to take such action.

Supporters of the Trump administration at the time attempted to revoke Congress’s certification of the results of the presidential election in November 2020. Joe Biden, a Democrat, became victorious.

In November 2024, the US will have its presidential election. Late in April, US President Joe Biden formally announced his intention to run for a second term in office.

Donald Trump, the former US president, announced his intention to run for office again in November 2022.
