A US MQ-9 drone was shot down by Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement’s air defence forces, the rebels announced in a statement.
Jerrymusa.com reports that the movement’s spokesman, Yahya Saria, posted a statement on his Telegram channel saying, “In Hodeidah, the Yemeni air defences were able to down an American MQ-9 drone with the help of a missile while it was carrying out a hostile mission against our country on behalf of the Zionist entity.”
US Military to Repel Subsequent Attacks
Previously, the US military carried out five strikes against three mobile anti-ship cruise missiles, an underwater drone, and a surface vehicle on February 17, according to a report from the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
According to the military, this was the Houthis’ first known use of an underwater drone since October 23, 2023.
The Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement declared that it would launch attacks on Israeli territory and prevent pro-Israeli ships from crossing the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait until Tel Aviv stopped its military operation in the Palestinian enclave, as the conflict in the Gaza Strip is getting worse.
Since mid-November of last year, the Houthis have assaulted many civilian vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Using planes, ships, and submarines, US and UK forces attacked targets in many towns, including Sanaa and Hodeidah, that were part of the Yemeni rebel movement on the evening of January 12.
The targets included radar installations owned by the Houthis, UAVs, and missile positions. There were several more of these procedures.
