The UK government has issued a statement banning international health workers and carers from bringing their dependents to the country on work visas.
In a statement issued on Monday, the UK stated that the ban was a component of their migration reduction strategies.
Jerrymusa.com reports that James Cleverly, the Home Department’s Secretary of State, made this announcement in a statement on the Home Office X account.
UK Cuts Down Migration Rate
According to Cleverly, care workers travelling to the UK on health and care worker visas are no longer permitted to bring dependents with them.
“This is a component of our strategy to implement the largest migration reduction ever.”
The account also featured an infographic titled “Banned: Overseas care workers from bringing dependents.”
“Under our new rules, 120,000 people who arrived last year would no longer be eligible,” it continued.
It further mentioned that the declaration was made in light of the financial difficulties affecting the UK. It mentioned that attempts had been made to rectify it by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
In line with efforts to reduce migration, the UK forbade overseas students from bringing their families with them at the beginning of this year.
Reports earlier on Monday indicated that there were fewer job openings in the UK.
The federal government has suspended medical professionals from moving overseas to take leave.
This was revealed last Saturday in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, by State Minister of Health Tunji Alausa, who stated that “medical professionals who travel overseas in search of better opportunities must henceforth resign their appointment before embarking on such journeys.”
During his visit to the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Aro, the minister stated that an Executive Order issued by President Bola Tinubu contained the directive.
