Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has ordered to avoid a direct military confrontation with the United States, The New York Times reported.

Jerrymusa.com reports that earlier this week, the Iranian Supreme National Security Council convened an emergency meeting.

After three US personnel were killed in a drone strike in the Al-Tanf area near the Syrian-Jordanian border, it was considered what Tehran would have to do if Washington attacked Iran or its allies.

Washington believes that the attack was carried out by the Shiite organisation Kataib Hezbollah, which is a component of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq and has ties to Iraq.

According to the publication, after learning of the meeting’s conclusion, Ali Khamenei issued two directives: refraining from going to war directly with the US and distancing Iran from the activities of the organisations responsible for American lives.

It states that concurrently, the supreme leader
instructed to get ready for a counterattack in the event that the US attacks Iran.

The military of Iran has been placed “on the highest alert,” ballistic missiles have been placed along its border with Iraq, and air defence systems have been triggered, according to multiple individuals who spoke with the New York Times.

Following the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli war in Gaza in October, there has been an uptick in missile and drone assaults on US military bases in Iraq and Syria.

Shiite militias have threatened to step up their military operations in Syria and Iraq if the US keeps giving Israel military support.
