China fires back at US over spying allegations

Beijing’s espionage actions are being misrepresented to the public by US authorities, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning.

“On one hand, the US frequently disseminates unfounded rumours regarding purported Chinese agents.

Conversely, the United States openly engages in extensive espionage operations against China, she noted during a briefing in response to reports that a US service member had been sentenced for allegedly providing China with confidential information.

Beijing “will take the necessary measures to protect state security,” according to the Chinese official.
