Public opinions cannot override constitution

Chief Justice of Nigeria disclosed in a statement that “Public opinions cannot override constitution”. He further stated that the provisions of the constitution of the country cannot be superseded by the opinions of the public, regardless of how important or weighty those opinions might be.

Judges use constitution to rule

He stated that despite being attacked, justices and judges in the country applied the constitutional rules in order to adjudicate the matters that were given to them.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) made this announcement on Wednesday, after he had just finished giving the oath of office to the newly appointed judges of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

He stated, “Numerous venomous insults are routinely levelled against the judicial system. It is, however, abundantly obvious that the Constitution of the country, which we use in considering each case, cannot be overridden or superseded by the opinions of the public, regardless of how grave or weighty such opinions might be.

the position of judge is not for wealth gathering

He emphasised that the appointment of judges is not to acquire wealth and warned that any sort of wrongdoing would not be condoned. He said that the appointment of judges is not for the purpose of amassing wealth.

According to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), the Nigeria Judiciary Commission will use its “big stick” against anyone who is deemed to be lacking.

Ariwoola is quoted as saying, “Whatever wrongdoing that emanates from any form of indiscretion and abuse of office will, in like manner, be used to conscientize, chastise, and thoroughly sanitise the same conscience that you may have refused to listen to.”

The NJC will not be portrayed as toothless bulldog

“Being appointed to the bench is not a ticket to wealth, vainglory, a dishonest disposition, or an ostentatious lifestyle made possible by corrupt acquaintances,” the judge said.

The National Judicial Council’s spotlight shines brightly on all of the nation’s judges and other judicial officials. It is imperative that the NJC not be portrayed in any way, either intentionally or accidentally, as a toothless bulldog.

“It has a ferocious bark, and it also has the ability to bite deeply and brutally.

Our surveillance equipment is sensitive enough to pick up any instance of misconduct or unethical behaviour on the part of judicial officers, and we will not squander a single second before taking the required steps to weed out the rotten apples.

Exercise extreme caution CJN tells Judges

“The remoteness of your location of adjudication will never prevent us from keeping a close eye on you. We have put the appropriate technology in place to record and document your behaviour.

“Therefore, exercise extreme caution and pay attention, or else you run the risk of coming to deeply lament your appointment to a position in the judicial system.” However, we do not desire such on you in any case!”

Jerrymusa.com reports that When carrying out their responsibilities, the judges were asked by the CJN to do so in an honest manner.

He instructed me, “In everything you do, I expect you to act with objectivity, fairness, and a commitment to justice.” Because the times we live in are highly precarious, we require judicial officers who are rational, honest, impartial, and dispassionate in all of the various aspects of their work.

“Consequently, your appointments to the bench at this crucial time in our country’s history are not the result of chance but rather of divine ordination,” the judge said.
