President Bola Tinubu orders Probe into boat accidents

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a full and thorough probe into the tragic recurrence of fatal boat occurrences across the country. According to a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, President Tinubu ordered that stringent safety regulations and enforcement be put in place for all boating operations in the nation. Tinubu warned that government agencies would be held accountable for any regulatory or safety shortcomings.

The president issued a directive to several government organisations, including law enforcement, maritime safety, and transportation safety authorities, encouraging them to work together to determine the root causes of these regrettable and avoidable disasters. To the relatives of the victims who perished in the recent boating accidents in the Adamawa LGA of Fufore and the Mokwa LGA of Niger, Tinubu sent his sincere condolences. “The President orders a number of government organisations, including law enforcement, maritime safety, and transportation safety authorities, to work closely together in order to determine the underlying causes of these regrettable and avoidable disasters.


President Tinubu reiterates his resolve to hold government organisations accountable for any regulatory or safety failings and further directs a thorough examination of safety precautions and strict implementation of current laws on boating activities in the nation. As the governments and citizens of Niger and Adamawa organised volunteers and emergency response teams to help the victims of the incidents, he voiced his support to them.

Condolence to Families of the Victims


Affirming the government’s continuous support for the impacted families and communities during this challenging time, Tinubu wished those hurt in the incidents a swift recovery. The statement continued, “The President assures the affected families and communities of the government’s ongoing support and his commitment to the future prevention of such tragic incidents.”


Jerrymusa.com reports that on Monday, a boat with numerous persons on board capsized in a river in Gurin of Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa State. Similar to this, after a boat capsized in a river on Sunday in Niger’s Mokwa Local Government between the Jebba and Kainji dams, 26 bodies were found and 44 are still missing.
