Disturbed by the worsening state of security in Plateau State, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, is set to meet with President Bola Tinubu to find measures to secure the lives and property of the people.
This comes shortly after the Speaker strongly denounced and called into question the ongoing attacks in the state of North Central.
Jerrymusa.com reports that since late December 2023, there have been attacks on some communities in Plateau State, resulting in numerous fatalities.
Plateau State Under Attack
Numerous casualties were recorded from strikes in Mangu earlier this week.
The Plateau State Government implemented a 24-hour curfew in the affected area as a result of the most recent occurrence.
His Special Advisor stated on Thursday that the Speaker of the House, Musa Krishi, called for a redoubled effort in the state’s battle against criminality.
The statement claimed, in part, that Speaker Abbas would meet with President Tinubu to discuss the issue and that the House would adopt a firm stance when it reconvenes on Tuesday of next week after the Christmas and New Year vacation.
Additionally, according to the statement, Abbas stated that “the House would kick-start plans to organise a security summit to find lasting solutions to the security challenges in the North and other parts of the country” when the MPs reconvene on January 30, 2024.
A Call for Peace in Plateau
“I am deeply saddened by the continuous killings in Plateau State,” the message continued. It is regrettable and depressing that this is taking place as the nation works to combat insecurity nationwide.
“I urge the residents of Plateau State to coexist peacefully, as they did for many years. As a people, we cannot carry on in this manner.
“In His wisdom, our creator has placed us together for a purpose, and we must continue to value our diversity and unite around a common goal to face our shared issues rather than taking our own lives. We will only move backwards on this course.”
The Speaker further urged the several security services to act swiftly to stabilise the situation on the Plateau.
