Nigeria Army begins operation still water to curb crime in Kwara state

To drive away criminals and improve the security of people and property in the region, the Nigeria Army has begun a military exercise in several areas of the Ifelodun local government in Kwara State.

The Operation to be carried out in Ifelodun LGA

According to a statement from the government house signed by Modupe Joel, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, made available to the press on Thursday, the operation, code-named Operation Still Water III, is carried out by soldiers from the 22 Brigade and is being held in Oro Ago in the Ifelodun local government area of the state and surrounding areas.

The Kwara State Government has asked traditional leaders and other interested parties to work with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies by providing them with the timely information they need to fulfill their constitutional obligations of protecting the population in order for it to succeed.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq made the request in Oro Ago at the Exercise Still Waters flag-off ceremony.

Nigeria army ready to address security issues

According to jerrymusa.com the Governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, stated that the Nigerian Army is eager to live up to Nigerians’ aspirations by addressing security issues in the region and beyond by collaborating with sister services and other security agencies.

He claimed that the help they receive from many communities will determine their level of achievement. According to AbdulRazaq, the military drill is an additional attempt to checkmate and deter criminal forces from establishing a foothold in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

“It’s wonderful to see the Nigerian Army and other security organizations working together to combat many violent crimes, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and abduction, among others. No matter how these criminal elements evolve, we are still succeeding, he declared.

Officers behind the initiative

The Governor also praised Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, for his creative leadership style and strategic planning in coming up with the concept of organizing this exercise.

He commended Major General B.A. Alabi, General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, for overseeing the execution of this exercise.

He also expressed his gratitude to Brigadier General Adebayo Babalola, Commander of 22 Brigade Ilorin, for his assistance in preserving peace and stability in Kwara State.

The Operation ensures the holiday is peaceful

Brigadier General Adebayo Babalola, the Brigade Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade Sobi, stated that the purpose of Exercise Still Water is to ensure that the holiday season is celebrated in a tranquil, secure, and safe atmosphere and that business operations continue to flourish without fear or panic.

He issued a warning to criminals to stay away from Kwara State and asked the populace for help by supplying information that would be necessary to drive criminals out of the state.
