Flood displaces 171,545 kills 45 in 13 states

According to the National Emergency Management Agency, the country-wide flooding that occurred in 2023 resulted in 45 fatalities and 171,545 displaced people.

Dapo Akingbade, a representative of the agency, revealed this during the Water Sanitation and Hygiene section of the Emergency Working Group’s monthly meeting in Abuja.

According to Akingbade, as of October 7, floods have hit 13 states, causing damage to 22,666 dwellings, 5,358 of which were completely destroyed, and 9,179 hectares of farmland, 8,754 of which were completely destroyed.

He further stated that the emergency operation center had been activated by the agency to begin a thorough assessment of the flood situation in Adamawa.

He declared, “Many people and towns have been affected by the flooding in Adamawa. We suggested that all states activate their flood response strategies during the EOC meeting. In order to know where to direct our attention, we are also expecting a thorough needs assessment report from Adamawa.
