West Ham take a step towards the Europa League’s knockout stages with a 1-0 victory over Olympiakos at the London Stadium, thanks to Paqueta’s winner.
According to jerrymusa.com the hosts had the better of things but struggled to break down the stubborn visitors, though a real moment of quality from Ward-Prowse unlocked the door, lofting a delightful throughball over the top for Paqueta.
The Brazil international volleyed for the first time, firing past Paschalakis and in to put the hosts ahead. The visitors did put some pressure on in the latter stages, with Camara hitting the post from a corner, but West Ham held on to secure a vital victory, taking them on to nine points and leaving them top of Group A.
They are now five points clear of Olympiakos in third. The Hammers host Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday, while Martinez’s men travel to take on Asteras Tripolis in the league the same day.
