Umar Sadiq was in action for Real Sociedad, which defeated 10-man Osasuna 2-0 to reach the Copa del Rey quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
Jerrymusa.com reports that Sadiq was brought on in the 73rd minute, with Sociedad leading 1-0. He was able to get one shot on goal against Osasuna, who had to use ten men for the majority of the match.
The fact that Sadiq played in a Sociedad’s Cup match would make people wonder even more about how he was permitted to leave the Super Eagles camp during the AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
Sadiq “got Injured” During Training
According to reports, the 26-year-old got injured during training, and Paul Onuachu took his position.
Unexpectedly, Sadiq was included in Sociedad’s squad for their Cup matchup with Osasuna.
In response to being named to the Spanish club, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro expressed his confusion over the striker’s unexpected comeback.
In response to a question concerning Sadiq during his news conference before Wednesday’s AFCON 2023 matchup with Côte d’Ivoire, Peseiro replied, “I’m also confused.”
“All I can tell is that I witnessed the medical test report stating that he is hurt and will not be able to heal in at least 15 days, if not longer. After receiving the report, the club declared that he needed to return to heal.”
Peseiro stated that although Sadiq desired to remain with the Eagles team, he and his coaching staff decided to replace him before January 3, which is the deadline for submitting the tournament squad lists.
“I’m glad he made a full recovery. I regret that he’s not here to help us.
