Nigeria’s Super Eagles struggled to earn a point against Equatorial Guinea in their AFCON opening match on Sunday afternoon.

Jerrymusa.com reports that the Super Eagles let down their defence and conceded a goal in the first half of the game. Guinea started mounting pressure on the Super Eagles and found the back of the net at 36 minutes with a superb strike from Salvador.

A swift response from Nigeria’s top striker, Victor Osimhen, with a header kept the Super Eagles back in the game less than one minute after Guinea scored.

The second half kicked off at a fast pace as the Eagles controlled the game and created a few chances, but none were converted into goals.

Victor Osimhem missed a clear chance after a through pass was given in the 75th minute, but it was sent wide by the striker.

Nigeria shared a point with Equatorial Guinea as the final score ended at 1-1 at Abidjan.

Bereft of Technical, Tactical Strength

Coach Jose Peseiro is notorious for faulty team selection, late substitution and tactical ineptitude. A couple of missed chances here and there, and the Super Eagles can’t win an Afcon opening game against minnows.

He adds no technical value. Zero display of experience. The worst Nigerian-based coach will do a far better job practically and technically.

Fingers crossed, but these Eagles hardly inspire confidence. It will be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for Nigeria to win this Afcon.
