Tehran is set to act prudently and will not allow Israel to achieve the goal of dragging Iran into the conflict, said Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Retired General Ahmad Gholampour.
“Israel has fallen into a quagmire of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, and in order to get out of it, it is seeking to drag Iran into this war as a direct participant,” Gholampour, who is currently a professor at the Supreme National Defense University of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, was quoted as saying by the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
He added that the Israeli airstrike on the consular division of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus was a “suicidal” attempt to draw Iran into the conflict.
Israel’s Alleged Strategy to Bring Iran Into The Picture
Jerrymusa.com reports that the expert claims that the Jewish state’s leadership thinks that “if Iran enters this war, the approach to it and its justification will change, and Israel will then be able to breathe a sigh of relief.”
Iran, according to Gholampour, should not permit Israel to succeed in its objectives, even in light of the consulate hit, which constituted “an open attack on the Iranian territory.” Tehran’s answer will thus be “prudent and carefully considered.”
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported on April 1 that an Israeli Air Force raid on the nation’s consulate in Tehran resulted in the deaths of seven Iranian advisors in Damascus.
They included five other officers, including generals Mohammed Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi. IRIB, an Iranian television outlet, reported that Zahedi oversaw Quds soldiers in Syria and Lebanon.
Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi cautioned that the attack would not go unanswered, and the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, promised that Iran would make Israel regret the hit. Israel has not formally accepted blame for the event.
CNN was informed by Israel Defence Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari that the attack targeted an IRGC military facility in Damascus rather than a consulate.
