Hamas welcomed the UN Security Council’s resolution on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and reiterated it is ready for indirect talks with Israel.
The UN Security Council resolution deal includes a call for a “permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the provision of humanitarian aid to the region.”
Jerrymusa.com reports that the resolution also includes provisions for a “prisoner exchange, the return of displaced persons, and the restoration of infrastructure in Gaza.”
Hamas Willing to Cooperate
In a statement on Telegram, Hamas said: “We are willing to cooperate with mediators to implement these provisions, but only if the consultations align with the demands of the Palestinians and the group itself.”
The UN Security Council passed the resolution with a vote of 14-0, with Russia abstaining. The resolution consists of seven points, including a call for Hamas to “accept the agreement and for all sides to fully implement its provisions without delay.”
The resolution also calls on all UN member countries to “support the implementation of the deal and reaffirm the commitment to resolving the conflict between Israel and Palestine on the basis of peaceful coexistence of the two states.”
Hamas has emphasized that any consultations on the ceasefire must be conducted “in accordance with the demands of the Palestinians and the group itself.”
