Speaking in response to Israel’s proposal for a two-month truce in the Palestinian enclave, Walid Kilani, a spokesman for the radical Palestinian Hamas movement, stated that the movement will discuss exchanging prisoners with Israel only after there has been a total ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
“A permanent ceasefire, rather than a transient one, is the primary requirement. Other matters like prisoner exchange and the restart of humanitarian aid will only be discussed after that, he informed the Anadolu news agency.
Israel Willing to Allow Hamas Officials Evacuate Gaza
According to a CNN report on Monday, Israel is willing to allow Hamas officials to evacuate the Gaza Strip in exchange for a fresh cease-fire. Although the idea had reportedly been considered at least twice in recent weeks, according to the station, Hamas was not likely to accept such terms.
Jerrymusa.com reports that hostilities erupted in the Middle East on October 7, 2023, following a surprise attack on Israeli territory by Hamas militants located in the Gaza Strip.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City was the target of Israeli authorities’ harsh activities, which prompted Hamas to launch its attack.
Israel began attacking the Palestinian enclave, as well as specific regions in Syria and Lebanon, and proclaimed a complete siege on Gaza.
There are also clashes happening on the West Bank.
