Extreme heat has caused the deaths of at least 20 people in India over the past day which may be linked to Global warming.
Jerrymusa.com reports that the highest number of fatalities in the past 24 hours, with 10 deaths attributed to the heat wave. A local doctor revealed that eight of these individuals succumbed to their condition before arriving at the hospital.
In neighboring Jharkhand, four people have lost their lives due to the extreme heat, with three of these deaths occurring in a hospital setting. Medical professionals believe overheating was the primary cause of these fatalities.
Effect of Heat Wave
Meanwhile, authorities in Rajasthan have confirmed five deaths linked to the abnormal heat wave, according to the state’s top public health official, Ravi Prakash Mathur.
However, he noted that some deaths during heat waves may be attributed to pre-existing health conditions and other factors, which are not officially classified as heatstroke-related deaths. In the capital, a 40-year-old man succumbed to the heat on Thursday, marking the first reported fatality.
The prolonged heat wave, with temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius (122 Fahrenheit) in some areas, has persisted for several days, making this May one of the warmest on record, according to local meteorologists.
