Victor Boniface wins Bundesluga rookie award twice consecutively

Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, has been named the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Month for September.

This was revealed by his club, Bayern Leverkusen’s X (formerly Twitter) account. This is Boniface’s second Rookie Player of the Month honour of the season; having previously won in August.

According to jerrymusa.com, the 22-year-old’s brilliance helped him win the award, beating out players like RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons and Hoffenheim attacker Maximilian Beier.

Boniface scored twice and dished up three assists in four games for Bayer Leverkusen in September.

Not only that, but Boniface also recently made his Super Eagles debut in a qualifying match for the 2023 AFCON against Soto and Principe. In the match, he displayed his abilities by setting up Nigeria’s sixth goal, scored by Samuel Chukwueze.

In a fantastic follow-up, he started for the Eagles in their 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia in a friendly international match in Portugal.

Since joining Bayer Leverkusen in the summer from Union St-Gilloise, Boniface has gotten off to a fantastic start in the Bundesliga, scoring nine goals and dishing out three assists in just 10 games.

The Nigerian international made history last month by being the first player since Erling Haaland in 2020 to win both the rookie and player of the month titles in the same month.
