A 46-year-old teacher at Maguya Day Secondary School in Zambia’s Chipata District allegedly took his own life by ingesting unknown poisonous substances.
Jerrymusa.com reports that Panford Mweetwa, who had recently been transferred from Nsanjika Day Secondary School, left a note expressing his feelings of accomplishment despite his hard work, writing, “he had been working very hard but had nothing to show what he had achieved.” He also included instructions on how to distribute his assets.
Mweetws’s Letter
The incident occurred on July 3, 2024, at Mwami turn off. According to Eastern Province Police Deputy Commanding Officer Stephen Mayoko, who confirmed the incident on July 5, Mweetwa told his wife he was going to Chipata town, but “around 10pm, Mr. Mweetwa was found unconscious.”
He was rushed to Katandala clinic and later transferred to another hospital, where he admitted to taking the poisonous substance, saying, “he had taken unknown poisonous liquid to end his life.” He died the same day. The body remains in the mortuary awaiting burial.
