The Department of State Services has urged organised labour to shelve its planned protests against the prevailing economic situation in the country.
Sources claim that if the Federal Government fails to live up to Labour’s 14-day ultimatum, a two-day statewide protest already scheduled for February 27 and 28 would be held in response.
Jerrymusa.com reports that in response to the scheduled demonstrations, the DSS asked the union to postpone the plan for the sake of maintaining public order and peace, according to a statement released on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya.
Don’t Inflame Emotions – DSS
The union was advised by the Secret Service to avoid actions that might inflame emotions instead of promoting discussion and negotiation.
“The Service is aware of this more so than not, that certain groups intend to take advantage of the demonstration to incite a crisis and, consequently, widespread bloodshed.”

It went on, “All levels of government should be given the benefit of the doubt because it is widely known that they are working to improve the current economic situation.”

“The DSS opposes using violence to resolve any of the current issues, whether they be political, economic, or otherwise.
