In anticipation of Senate approval, President Bola Tinubu approves the appointment of Mr. Ola Olukoyede’s as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for a four-year first term that is renewable.

This comes after he suspended Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former director of the anti-graft agency, for about four months.
According to a statement penned by Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity, “Mr. Olukayode’s appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa,” it was announced on Thursday.
“President Tinubu appoints a new EFCC Chairman and Secretary of the Commission,” reads the statement.
Olukoyede is a competent candidate
Olukoyede is a lawyer with more than 22 years of experience working as a regulatory compliance consultant, fraud management expert, and corporate intelligence specialist.
Having previously held the positions of Secretary to the Commission (2018–2023) and Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016–2018), he has a wealth of experience in the management of the EFCC. He thereby satisfies the legal prerequisite for appointment to the position of EFCC Chairman.
In addition, President Tinubu gave his blessing to Mr. Muhammad Hammajoda’s appointment as the EFCC Secretary for an initial term of five years that is renewable, subject to Senate approval.
Olukoyede’s background
The University of Maiduguri awarded Hammajoda a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration. He is a public administrator with vast experience in managing public finances.
