Team Nigeria will officially open camping in three states, and the Federal Capital Territory, as the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, will intensify the preparation of athletes for the Paris Olympics.
Jerrymusa.com reports that the Minister of Sports Development John Enoh announced that Lagos, Bayelsa, Oyo, and the FCT are the designated states for camping, aiming to prepare Team Nigeria for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
At a ministerial strategic technical meeting in Abuja, Enoh emphasized the importance of thorough preparations and assured that foreign training tours for athletes would commence after the domestic camp. Countries like Germany, Spain, Italy, and the US, proximal to France, have been identified for the foreign tours.
Team Nigeria is Ready
Enoh committed to leaving no stone unturned for Team Nigeria’s success, stating that the combination of domestic camping and foreign training tours is crucial for athletes’ preparedness.
The ministry is working diligently to surpass Nigeria’s best Olympic performance, achieved in Atlanta 1996. The goal is to build on past successes and strive for excellence in Paris 2024.
A comprehensive roadmap and technical training programs have been outlined for Team Nigeria, with meticulous analysis by the Federation and Elite Athletes Department and the Ministerial Podium Performance Committee to ensure a medal-winning path.
The roadmap aims to provide athletes with optimal preparation, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities and expert coaching both locally and internationally. Currently, 88 athletes have qualified for the Olympics, with others still in the qualification process.
