Obi commends new Canadian health minister of Nogerian descent

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, commended Uzoma Asagwara, a Nigerian, on her appointment as the province of Manitoba’s minister of health.

According to jerrymusa.com Asagwara serves the province in a dual capacity as deputy premier. The former governor of Anambra State credited Asagwara’s accomplishments to hard work and devotion to service in a series of tweets posted on Sunday via his profile on X (previously Twitter).

The post read, “It was heartening to see a young Nigerian woman, Uzoma Chioma Asagwara, swearing in as the new Health Minister and Deputy Premier of the Province of Manitoba in Canada. The encouraging report supports Nigerians’ inventive spirit once more.

The story claims that Asagwara was the first black person in Manitoba to hold this post. She deserves my warmest congratulations for accomplishing this milestone, which can only be attained through perseverance, commitment, and duty-driven dedication.

Nigeria youths doing exploit

According to Obi, the youth of Nigeria look forward to Asagwara as a model of perseverance. He continued by saying he has faith in “the greatness and limitless resourcefulness of the Nigerian people.”

“She is an example of hard work for millions of young Nigerians. I wish her luck in her new role and encourage her to keep working for social change, both in Canada and in Nigeria, he added.

Obi argued for the need for “progressive leadership” to encourage the nation’s youth to achieve success.

The tweet’s conclusion said, “Just like Asagwara, many intelligent Nigerian youths will achieve greater heights in their chosen fields of interest in the New Nigeria.

Asagwara’s background

Punch reports that Asagwara is a former basketball player who was born in 1984. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing from Brandon University and the University of Winnipeg in Canada.

She was born in Umuahia, Abia State, to Nigerian parents. The 35-year-old is the nation’s first elected black queer representative to the Manitoba Legislative Assembly.
