NLC Declares 2-day National Protest Over Hardship, Signed Pacts

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Friday, directed its members and affiliate unions to begin mobilisation for a two-day national protest expected to take place on February 27 and 28 if the federal government fails to implement all the agreements signed with it in October 2023.

Jerrymusa.com reports that when the 14-day ultimatum it had earlier set expires, a two-day nationwide protest is scheduled.

Labour No Longer Interested in Empty Promise

After the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, addressed reporters and urged his members to prepare for an indefinite strike that would begin seven days following the nationwide protest if the government did not accede to their demands.

Nigerians were fighting for their lives; thus, Ajaero, who pointed out that Labour was no longer interested in the government’s empty language but rather in action, asked the administration to swiftly put the agreement into effect and rebuild trust in the democratic process.
