Nigerian Organized Labour has declared an indefinite nationwide strike, effective from Monday, June 3rd, in response to the federal government’s failure to conclude negotiations on a new national minimum wage and reverse the recent hike in electricity tariffs.
Jerrymusa.com reports that this decision came on Friday that Organized Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), had threatened to embark on a nationwide strike from Monday if the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage failed to meet their expectations.

During a briefing, leaders of NLC and TUC apologized for the inconvenience, stating, “We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but we are committed to pursuing this cause to its conclusion.
We understand the impact this may have on the nation, but we cannot continue to stand by while workers’ rights are neglected.”
The strike is set to commence on Monday, and it remains unclear how long it will last, as Organized Labour has vowed to continue the industrial action until their demands are met.
