Nigeria suspends degree certificates from Togo and Benin

The Federal Government has declared that it will no longer be evaluating or accrediting degree diplomas from Togo and the Benin Republic.

This was said in a statement by the representative of the Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Augustina Obilor-Duru on Tuesday, January 2.

“The Daily Nigerian Newspaper’s investigative piece, Uncover How a Daily Nigerian Reporter Bagged Cotonou a Varsity Degree in 6 Weeks,” which was published last week, is allegedly what prompted the decision.

Nigerians take take advantage

Jerrymusa.com reports that To obtain graduate job possibilities for which they are unqualified, “some Nigerians deploy nefarious means and unconscionable methods to get a degree,” the federal government bemoaned.

The announcement states that the ban is in place based on the results of an examination involving the Department of State Security Services (DSS), the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education of Nigeria, and the two nations.
