The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned that plans by some individuals and groups to stage protests on Democracy Day, June 12, 2024, are sinister and intended to undermine national security.
Jerrymusa.com reports that according to the DSS, these protests are designed to coincide with the Democracy Day celebrations and may turn violent.
In a statement, the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, emphasized that while citizens have the right to assembly and expression, these freedoms should not be used to compromise public safety and national security.

He urged citizens to reject any attempts to cause disorder and anarchy in the country, and instead, channel their grievances through the appropriate channels.
The DSS reiterated its commitment to protecting the nation from disgruntled groups and sustaining collaboration with relevant stakeholders to maintain peace and protect lives and property.
The service assured law-abiding citizens to go about their businesses without fear, noting that any attempts to cause widespread dissatisfaction through violent protests would be met with zero tolerance.
