The Nigerian Customs Service, Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, has said it intercepted 12,435 litres of Premium Motor Spirit worth N10.8m being illegally exported to Cameroon.

Jerrymusa.com reports that the Adamawa/Taraba Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) announced on Saturday that it had intercepted premium motor spirit (PMS) worth N10.8 million, destined for Cameroon, within two weeks. The product was packed in 491 jerrycans of 25 liters each and eight jerrycans of 20 liters each.

Customs Area Comptroller Garba Bashir explained that the PMS was seized alongside the means of conveyance during anti-smuggling operations along the command’s frontiers.

Suspects Abandons The Item

No suspects were arrested, as the perpetrators abandoned the items and fled to avoid arrest. Bashir stated that the seizures were in line with sections 150 and 248 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, considering the command’s territorial borders are officially closed.

Due to its inflammable nature, the petrol has been auctioned. Bashir emphasized that smuggling activities harm national growth, revenue, trade policies, food security, and public security.

He warned smugglers that operatives are strategically positioned along borderlines to curb their illicit activities and solicited support from border communities in the fight against smuggling.
