Two police inspectors from the Zone 2 Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, Sunday Adetoye and Ogunleye Stephen, were fired for offences in the zone classified as armed robbery, official corruption, and unlawful duty.

The officers searched without a warrant
At approximately 10 p.m. on November 23, 2023, investigators Adetoye (Force number 279495) and Stephen (Force number 223521), two Vigilante Group members (Abidoye Femi and Semiu Afisu), and a driver (Charles John) reportedly stormed a house in the Obada-Oko community in Ogun State.

Without a warrant, they allegedly searched Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola’s flat on Sunday and took five iPhones, a Samsung smartphone, a Tecno smartphone, and two laptop computers.
The Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba, gave an explanation of their arrest, stating, “After other flat residents informed police officers about the incident, along with the vehicle’s description, police officers attached to Ifo Division mounted a roadblock.” As a result, the people inside the car were taken into custody, excluding ASP Ajayi Victor, the person in charge of the unlawful operation. As of right now, he is free.

The AIG has ordered that the terminated officers face charges in court alongside the concerned civilians, but he is urging all of the force’s officers and soldiers to stay in place.
