Nigeria Aso Villa, Agencies Face Disconnection Over 47bn Electricity Debt

No fewer than 86 ministries, agencies, and departments of government are owing the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to the tune of N47bn.

According to a public notice, “the AEDC management stated that the Presidential Villa owed the Disco N923.9 m; the National Security Adviser owed N95.9 bn; the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory, under Nyesom Wike’s supervision, owed N7.57 bn; and Adebayo Adelabu’s Ministry of Power owed N78 m.

“The AEDC stated in its notice on Monday that it would be forced to publish a list of MDAs whose names had “long outstanding unpaid bills for services rendered to them through the provision of electricity supply in that our previous attempts to make them honour their obligations have not achieved the desired result.

Abuja DISCO Gives 10days Notice

“If the MDAs didn’t pay their bills, the AEDC threatened to disconnect them in ten days.”  It said, “The relevant MDAs are hereby given notice that the AEDC shall embark on disconnection of our services to them until they discharge their obligations to us by paying their debts, after the expiration of 10 days from the date of this publication.”

Jerrymusa.com reports that the highest level of debt is N12 bn owed by the Chief of Defence, staff barracks, and military formations; the Ministry of Finance is N5.43 bn in debt; and the Niger State Governor’s Abuja liaison office is N3.45 bn in debt.

“The Ministry of State Petroleum owes N2.13 bn, the Ministry of Education N1.82 bn, the Governor of the Central Bank N1.56 bn, the Nigeria Police Force N1.38 bn, MD World Bank N17.60 m, the Governor of Rivers State’s Abuja liaison office N15 million, and Ogun.

“Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, N846 m; State Governor’s Abuja Liaison Office, N1.51 m; Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, N291.30 m; Independent National Electoral Commission, N75 m; Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, N60.55 m; and National Youth Service Corps, N56.38 m.

“A few more are the Ministries of Women’s Affairs, Justice, Labour, Mines, Science & Technology, Transportation, Agriculture, Information, Trade & Investment, Budget & Planning, and Agriculture.

“Additionally, the Abuja DisCo is owed by the liaison offices of the governors of Lagos, Edo, Kaduna, Anambra, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Zamfara, Enugu, Nasarawa, and Katsina.

“Similarly, the AEDC claimed it was due money by the State Security Office, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Clerk of the National Assembly, the Comptroller General of Customs, the United Nations Abuja Liaison Office, the Head of ECOWAS, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, COREN, the Chief Justice of the Federal Capital, and other parties.”
