The widow of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu, has reportedly remarried.
Jerrymusa.com reports that Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the late Rotimi Akeredolu’s widow, has remarried.
Professor Wole Akeredolu, the younger brother of Betty’s late husband, is said to have received Betty.
The Emeabiam Community in the Imo State local government area of Owerri West made the decision.
Family Tradition Fulfilled
The Umuegeolu kindred’s formal transfer of Betty to Professor Wole Akeredolu marked the culmination of the ritual and the family’s intention to keep her in the fold following her husband’s passing.
Previous to this symbolic act, the Akeredolus made traditional presents to the Umuegeolu kindred, which included kolanuts, palm wine, and a she-goat.
Professor Wole Akeredolu responded by thanking the entire Emeabiam Community and the Umuegeolu kindred for their hospitality.
In addition to thanking everyone for their support throughout Betty’s grieving process and the Owo burial ceremony, he reaffirmed the Akeredolu family’s commitment to taking care of her.
A customary Igbo ritual known as the Mgbafu Mkpe ceremony marks the return of a widow to her husband’s family after his death.
It includes both families coming to a mutual understanding and carrying out the appropriate ceremonies.
