Ijora tanker explosion: no casualty recorded - fire service

No casualties were reported in the tanker explosion in the Lagos State neighbourhood of Ijora, according to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service on Friday.

Tanker explosion happened Thursday night

The fire had been put out, according to the service’s general manager, Margaret Adeseye, who confirmed this in a statement issued in Lagos.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the tanker explosion took place on Thursday night on the bridge that connects the Lagos neighbourhoods of Ijora, Orile, and Costain.

According to jerrymusa.com the roaring fire has been contained as pockets of flames continue to be dampened, allowing for an investigation to identify the origin and the evacuation of the area to restore normalcy.

11 vehicles were burnt

She said that two tankers, a tipper truck, three trailers, three cars, and two micro-mini buses were among the 11 vehicles that were involved in the accident.

According to NAN, Mr. Ibrahim Falinloye, the Southwest Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, said 13 vehicles, including two buses, two cars, a trailer carrying detergents and sardines, one sport utility vehicle (SUV), three flat-body trailers, two 20-foot containers, and two PMS tankers, were destroyed by the tanker’s fire.

LASEMA is removing the burned-out vehicle’s carcasses.
