The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a two-week temporary bail to Abba Kyari, the former commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, after 27 months in detention. This temporary release will allow Kyari to attend his mother’s burial rites.
Jeerymusa.com reports that Kyari’s mother, Yachilla Kyari, pkassed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024, leaving behind 10 children, with Abba being the eldest son. Although Kyari was unable to attend his mother’s burial, residents of Borno State showed their respect by paying their condolences to Yachilla, who was buried according to Islamic rites on the same day.
Kyari Gets Bail by Friday
The court has scheduled Friday, May 31, for the determination of Kyari’s bail application in the trial over drug-related charges filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following his arrest on February 14, 2022.
In 2022, the Police Service Commission suspended Kyari and two senior police officers, Sunday Ubua and James Bawa, who were named in a cocaine deal involving the suspended deputy commissioner of police. The NDLEA had also declared Kyari wanted over alleged links with an international drug cartel.
