A medical doctor, identified as Wale, have cautioned Nigerians against consuming rotten tomatoes and pepper, commonly referred to as ‘eesa’ or ‘baaje’ tomatoes.
Jerrymusa.com reports that in a viral social media clip, Wale emphasized the health risks associated with eating spoiled tomatoes and pepper, including the potential development of cancer due to harmful microorganisms like fungi that produce mycotoxins.
Displaying rotten tomatoes on a plate, Wale urged citizens to prioritize their health despite economic challenges.
High Cost of Food
“While it’s understandable to seek affordable options, please avoid these rotten tomatoes and pepper, as they can be harmful to your health,” he warned.
“Fresh tomatoes are rich in essential nutrients like Vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants, but rotten tomatoes are a different story.
They attract flies that deposit germs and eggs, leading to invasion by microorganisms that cause rot and produce mycotoxins, linked to cancer and immune deficiency.”
Wale stressed that the fluid content in tomatoes accelerates the spread of mycotoxins, making them a significant health risk.
He encouraged Nigerians to prioritize their well-being and avoid consuming spoiled produce, even in difficult economic times.
