Lagos State has been hit by severe flooding following days of relentless rainfall, affecting residential areas and major roads.
Jerrymusa.com reports that the heavy downpour on Wednesday caused widespread flooding in various parts of the city, including Ibeju-Lekki, Ketu, Oworonshoki, Oshodi, Epe, Sangotedo, and Awoyaya.
Residents blamed the flooding on clogged waterways due to indiscriminate waste disposal.
Lagos Recent Constant Rain
“There is too much water flowing into my compound; the entire house is submerged,” said Rasheed Ayobami, a resident of the Labora area.
“I live in a new site where there is no drainage, which makes the water run into residential homes, rendering us homeless.”
Seyi Arowosaye, another resident, called on the local government to clear drains and urged residents to stop dumping waste in drainage systems.
“The government should find a lasting solution to this perennial flooding challenge,” he said.
Residents of Okota spent the morning bailing water from their flooded apartments, while motorists faced heavy traffic on the roads.
“So many areas in the metropolis are also affected by flooding,” said Mrs. Bola Fadugba, a resident of Labora.
“The government should find a lasting solution to this perennial flooding challenge.”
The flooding also caused a tree to fall in Oshodi, but LASTMA personnel cleared it to restore traffic flow.
“We urge residents to desist from dumping waste in drainage systems to control flooding,” said Arowosaye.
