Flight Disruption at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos has prompted the Federal Government to formally reopened the D Wing of the previous international terminal. The goal of the government was to reduce flight delays and boost air travel’s general effectiveness.
FG to ease Flight Delay
Jerrymusa.com reports that Following the abrupt transfer of foreign airlines from the international terminal of the Lagos airport to an adjacent new terminal that opened in March, the move was a part of a larger effort to solve the rising issues encountered by travellers and airlines operating in Nigeria.
Festus Keyamo, the aviation minister, stated on Monday that the old international terminal, which had been temporarily shuttered for renovations, would reopen.
In a statement, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, Director, Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, FAAN, stated that Keyamo had stressed the government’s commitment to advancing the aviation industry and guaranteeing that travellers had a smooth journey.
Aviation Minister steps in
This is to inform the travelling public that the Hon. Minister of Aviation, Mr. Festus Keyamo, has kindly permitted the use of the D Wing of the Old Murtala Muhammed International Terminal to complement the New International Terminal in order to ease facilitation of passengers through the airport, according to the statement.
Keyamo had mandated that airlines move to the new terminal on October 1, 2023, but FAAN moved the foreign carriers to the facility on Wednesday.The MMIA’s baggage hall was partially destroyed by fire on the same day that FAAN abruptly relocated, forcing the agency to evacuate customers and staff.
The rapid relocation of the foreign carriers was required as a result of the airport fire and other developments that affected the power supply, according to Mr. Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, Director of Media for FAAN.
But he said that FAAN was looking into the Flight disruption and D Wing was now being used for processing passengers.
