ECOWAS condemns plan to obstruct peace in Sierra Leone

The conspiracy by a few people to sabotage the peace in Sierra Leone has been denounced by the Economic Community of West African States.

The censure may be found in an ECOWAS statement that was released in Abuja on Sunday.

The bloc has learned of a scheme by some people to get weapons and undermine the peace and constitutional order in Sierra Leone, which it regards with the deepest contempt.

“ECOWAS condemned this behaviour and demands that those responsible for the illegality be apprehended and prosecuted.”

According to jerrymusa.com the group has consistently upheld its zero-tolerance policy for illegitimate political transitions.

In order to promote socioeconomic development, it said, “We want to reaffirm our commitment to supporting the government and the people of Sierra Leone in their quest to deepen democracy and good governance by consolidating peace and security.”

Earlier, in an effort to prevent any interference with the peace, the government of Sierra Leone imposed a 24-hour countrywide curfew.
