The Federal Government has declared Friday, March 29th, and Monday, April 1st, 2024, as public holidays to mark the 2024 Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively.

Jerrymusa.com reports that Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior and spokesperson for the Federal Government, called on Nigerians, Christians included, to imitate Jesus Christ’s selfless act of dying for the sake of humanity.

The Significance of Easter

Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, signed a statement in which the Minister stated that Easter fosters qualities of love, forgiveness, and compassion that are vital for social harmony and cohesion, regardless of its religious importance.

He urges Christians to adopt these characteristics since they have the power to improve Nigeria’s socioeconomic development by promoting harmony, lowering tensions, and promoting cooperation among its people.

In order to improve the material circumstances of those who are less fortunate than themselves, he also urged Nigerians to engage in deeds of kindness and generosity.

“This is in line with the President’s renewed hope agenda,” he stated.

The statement said, “The Minister called on Nigerians to join hands with the President Tinubu-led administration in its determination to bring sustainable development and usher in prosperity to all, while wishing Christians at home and abroad a happy and blissful Easter celebration.”
