Yuki, the wife of the detained Binance Holdings Limited executive, Tigran Gambaryan, has described the 65 days her husband has spent in custody as the longest in their lives.
Jerrymusa.com reports that on February 26, Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, another executive of the business, were taken into custody as a result of an inquiry into Binance’s operations in Nigeria.
On Tuesday, at the House Foreign Affairs Committee roundtable on Americans jailed abroad, Yuki spoke on behalf of her congressman, Rich McCormick.
Nigerian Gov’t And Binance
Yuki said that the government of Nigeria had lured her husband to the nation and imprisoned Gambaryan without first accusing him of a crime.
While she couldn’t speak for the company, Gambaryan’s wife emphasised that the accusations against her husband were wholly baseless.
“My spouse, Tigrin, the father of our two small children, has been in Nigerian custody for 65 days, which is the longest two months of our lives,” the woman stated.
“He arrived in Abuja on February 25 at the Nigerian government’s request for a financial compliance policy.
“Tigran acts in this manner. He assists nations in navigating the notoriously tricky fields of compliance, money, and crime.
“He spends his days looking into and going after illegal activity on Binance’s cryptocurrency platform, which is where he works.”
“But a day after he arrived, he was taken into custody without being given a reason or charge.
“The Nigerian government took more than two weeks to invent accusations against Tigran and financing that had to do with taxes.
“I can’t speak for his employer, but Tigran is being accused of completely unfounded things.
“He was arrested because of some allegations against his employer after being tricked into entering the country under false pretences.”
Yuki also bemoaned the fact that her husband was being housed at the Kuje penitentiary facility, which also housed terrorists.
“My spouse is incarcerated in the infamous Kuje jail, which has housed militants from both Boko Haram and the Islamic State,” the woman stated.
The wife of Gambaryan claimed that her husband was being exploited as a negotiating tool by the Nigerian government, calling the situation disastrous.
The speaker expressed her irony, stating that Tigran worked for almost ten years as a special agent for the US General Revolution Revenue Service.
During that time, she looked into matters pertaining to identity theft, tax fraud, national security, the financing of terrorism, and more.
“It is heartbreaking to watch my husband, who is by nature a kind and morally upright person, be used as a negotiating chip by the Nigerian government.”
Consequently, she demanded that the US government cease its inaction in the matter involving its citizens.
“The US can not afford to do nothing while its people suffer greatly due to geopolitical gamesmanship, according to Yuki.
“On March 23, Anjarwalla broke out of safe custody and left the nation.”
The Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission then charged Gambaryan and Binance with tax evasion and money laundering, respectively.
