It’s a defeat for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the pre-AFCON friendly against Guinea at Bani Yas Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Jerrymusa.com reports that the Jose Peseiro-led team fell behind as early as the 14th minute of the match, despite playing without their top attacker, Victor Osimhen, and starting custodian, Francis Uzoho.
In the twentieth minute, Simon Moses had an opportunity to tie the score for the Super Eagles from the penalty spot, but the Guinean goalie stopped him.
More work to be done by the Eagles
The Guineans doubled their lead in the 64th minute when they scored another goal.
Calvin Bassey replaced Kenneth Omeruo, Alex Iwobi took the place of Raphael Onyedika, and Frank Onyeka replaced Chidozie Awaziem as Peseiro made numerous changes to the squad.
Three further modifications were made in the 83rd minute when Joe Aribo replaced Alhassan Yusuf, captain Ahmed Musa took the place of Samuel Chukwueze, and Moses Simon was replaced by Ademola Lookman.
Despite the substitutions, Guinea managed to maintain their lead and secure a confidence-boosting victory that sent them to the AFCON.
As they get ready to travel to Cote d’Ivoire for the AFCON, the Super Eagles are anticipated to take off for Lagos on Tuesday.
