Breaking: Osimhem makes top-3 African Footballer of the Year shortlist

Nigeria’s prolific striker, Victor Osimhen, makes the three-man finalshortlist for the CAF best player of the year award.

Jerrymusa.com reports that CAF unveiled the final three for the coveted award on Thursday, with the trio of Victor Osimhen, Mohamed Salah, and Achraf Hakimi on the shortlist.

The nominees were revealed through CAF’s social media platforms, but the selection has left many questioning the criteria and fairness of the list.

“The best of the best,” CAF posted on their X account. “Player of the Year (MEN) Award—Final 3,” it added.

But the three contenders whose names were revealed have been met with resounding expressions of disapproval on the social media platform.

Player of the Year final nominees have sparked discontent and frustration among football fans across the continent.

The fans took to the comment section of the post to express themselves; some have called the list a joke or a source of embarrassment.

Fans have attacked CAF’s selection, primarily focusing on the omission of Yassine Bounou, the goalkeeper for Sevilla, and Morocco.

Bounou is claimed to have performed well enough to be included in the final three. Bounou was outstanding for both club and nation, Morocco, which advanced to the FIFA World Cup semifinal in Qatar in 2022.

Reactions, criticism, and disapproving voices has been seen in the comment section, mixed with praise for Nigeria’s Osimhen, who is widely regarded as the front-runner for the prize.

The race is far from over yet, as the final winner is still unknown.
